the new house KITCHEN / BEFORE AND AFTER

I have waited so long to write this post! We started the kitchen renovation the day after we closed on the house and we just finished it. The only thing we kept was most of the cabinetry. We ripped the floors, countertops, lighting, appliances and a wall out. We painted the cabinets and added a custom range hood and pennisula to the existing cabinets. I am OVER THE MOON thrilled with how this room came out. We live in the room and every time I walk into I'm so happy and grateful.
Before. You can see how tight the space felt. We took out the wall to the right where you can see the side of the fridge.
Same view after. Taking the wall out and adding a peninsula with barstools made the biggest difference in the space.
I designed a fun detail on the end of the peninsula to mimic the design on the floor and add some interest. The pennisula is the first thing you see when you look into the space so I designed it to look like a piece of furniture with inset paneling and up on legs. Luke's father built it for me and it adds so much to the space.

UPDATE: I had a sweet commenter who asked me where the fridge got moved to and I realized I hadn't shown it!
Shown above is the old pantry. (I'm standing in front of the old fridge to take the picture). We used the space for the pantry and took a little bit of the laundry room that the pantry backs up to for the fridge and its perfect. You can see the new placement in the below picture.

Before. We lucked out with great solid wood simple panel cabinets that looked beautiful when painted and my favorite farmhouse sink from ikea was perfect.
I looked and looked for cement tiles that were affordable for the big space (kitchen, breakfast and laundry all run together so the same tile was necessary) and found this fabulous ceramic option from home depot that I couldn't love more. So durable and always looks so clean which is a huge plus with the twins and our golden Rowan.

We changed from electric to gas and Luke built this gorgeous hood that I am in love with.
Sorry for the bad lighting on this before! But you can see the wall we took out and the eating area.

I hope you like! I'll be back on Wednesday sharing sources and links!
